Should You Be Writing About Writing?

Only if you really want to.

Medium is an amazing resource. A community full of readers and writers. Somewhere to share your passions, knowledge and everything in between.

And to make it even better you can tailor your interests, the publications and people you follow so only those things show up in your feed. Then, there’s the mystical Medium algorithm — a thing that writers can only dream of one-day understanding.

Since joining Medium a pretty large chunk of my reading time has been dedicated to improving my craft. But now these are the only articles showing up for me to read.

I devour them without respite, get led down endless rabbit holes written by some of the goliaths of Medium writing tips — Shaunta Grimes, Tom Kuegler, Jyssica Schwartz to name a few. And they’ve been beyond useful, I’ve employed many of their tactics and my writing has improved.

But then this led me to my own minute form of an existential crisis.

Should I be writing about writing?

Because that’s what these guys are writing about and people are reading it, commenting and clapping for it. These guys are making money from their writing and well, that would be really nice. Is this the only way to be a successful writer…
